Its been a while since weve had Shur-I-Kan release on Freerange but after hearing this little gem were sure youll agree its been worth the wait. Mr Szirtes has been riding a wave of great releases recently including his Berlin Rising EP for Physical Graffiti and Swap Shop (with Milton Jackson) on Winding Road. Hes also been working on a lot of good remixes for the likes of Trackheadz, Fred Everything and Akabu. Letting You Down sees Tom really dig into some hip hop influences with amazing results, carefully crafting a deep house track thats loaded with funk, soul and attitude. A Jay Dee inspired bass line snakes around whilst off kilter percussion rattles and the warmest of Rhodes stabs its way through the track. Add to this a vocal hook sent from the heavens above and youve got a surefire underground smash whichll turn the heat up on any discerning dancefloor. On remix duties we have Mannheim resident Nick Curly, a producer who weve had our ears on for a while now and definitely the right man to toughen things up, strip things back and inject a different energy for a more peaktime orientated version. His releases on his own 8bit and Cecille are causing serious hype and deservedly so. On this remix of Letting You Down he keeps things jacking but housey with just the right amount of drama to ensure thisll get spins from those DJs who like to play right across the board. Finally we give you Watchmen, a strange yet compelling groover with more than a hint of Middle Eastern influence in its crisp, bouncing beats, chiming percussion and modal lead lines.
