For its 10th anniversary Sonar Kollektiv keeps on innovating with the new digital sub-label Digital Kollektiv and the associated download platform www.digitalkollektiv.com This is not just a reaction to changing habits of the listening public, rather a new way of playing with the possibility that the medium internet offers. At first there will be Digital Kollektiv releases to accompany regular albums - for example, made up of alternative versions, remixes and exclusive tracks which will only be available through Digital Kollektiv. Moreover this opens a new field of experimentation for JAZZANOVA's A&R team. The speed and flexibility of the medium means Digital Kollektiv is perfect for releases beyond the static frame of physical discs. Of course, all downloads will be available not just as MP3s but also as non-lossy Wave files. The Berlin-based collective has had quite a good intuition when they decided to release State Of Euphoria (SK080CD/LP) of SOULPHICTION aka JACKMATE aka DJ and producer MICHEL BAUMANN. The man from Stuttgart, who runs the labels Philpot and Phil E already put out many tracks through the likes of Perlon, Playhouse, Freude am Tanzen, Moon Harbour and Mule Records amongst others and who remixed big names such as DJ KOZE, INTERNATIONAL PONY, DAPAYK & PADBERG, EGOEXPRESS, MOVE D, SOLOMUN and EVA BE, really exposed his talent with his debut album on Sonar Kollektiv in 2006. But this is only the beginning of the story for SOULPHICTION, who is ready to hit the sweet spot once again with the release of Do You Overstand?! (SK180CD/elektrish), a second album that takes in so many influences and spans so many genres that it does not fit in any particular category. I Just Wait is one of the most unexpected tracks of the album. Whereas the album takes epic dancefloor proportions with tunes like Ghana Wadada and Velveteens, I Just Wait is a freaked-out slice of hip-hop with a groovy bassline and singing flute melodies in an abstract style reminiscent of DJ SHADOWs most chilled-out productions. It is also potential radio hit that Sonar Kollektiv decided to re-release on his digital Sub-label Digital Kollektiv to the greater joy of his fans.
