Freerange are very proud and excited to be kicking off the New Year with such a high quality release as this one. Its safe to say that Paris based musician, DJ and producer Jerome Caron is something of an enigma. With only two original productions and a mere handful of remixes released over the past 5 or so years, hes not exactly prolific. But what Jerome might lack in quantity, he more than makes up for in quality which is why both Moustache and Untitled have become established classics with many of the top DJs leading to re-releases on NRK and here on Freerange. While NRK opted to pick up the retro disco tinged Moustache, weve gone for the super-deep house epic entitled Untitled. For many DJs (including Dave Solid Groove Taylor, Alix Alvarez and our own Jimpster) this track is up there in their all time top 10 house tracks. An absolute stalwart in their DJ sets and something of a criminally underrated stone cold classic that so many missed out on when it originally appeared on small French indi label Project Recordings. So thats why we thought it a good idea to re-release, with absolutely top drawer remixes to get this heavy heavy track the attention it so deserves. So here are the remixes Stefan Goldmann should need no introduction, especially to fans of the post minimal deep house and techno that is appearing on the likes of Dixons Innervisions or Lucianos Cadenza labels. His recent Sleepy Hollow track on Innervisions is in our opinion pushing the boundaries of deep, electronic house so Stefan seemed an obvious choice to get on board for the Black Joy project. Were blown away by the steely, confident remix that hes delivered. The crisp, minimal drums ooze with funk while the glassy, digital chords worm their way in your brain. This mix is a lesson in subtlety and minimal restraint. Pure class. On the flip we have a totally different take from Mr Solid Groove who puts the track through his very own sonic mangle. The man like Switch has respectfully kept the vibe and feel of the original intact whilst putting his trademark stamp on it, freaking the FX for maximum energy and adding some dark and twisted vocal parts that can best be described as insane. Dirty, dark and jacking is the end result and should please all followers of Daves deeper stuff immensely.
